The All Progressive Congress’ (APC) Caretaker Committee Chairman in Rivers State, Tony Okocha has accused former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi of plotting to take over the party and use it to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Okocha however has sworn that he would never give Amaechi and his supposed representative, Emeka Beke, the upper hand over Tinubu.
He stated this in Abuja while reacting to the August 15 court ruling that dismissed his committee.
The Okocha-led interim committee was dismissed by a Port Harcourt High Court, and Emeka Beke was reinstated as the APC Chairman.
Okocha criticized the APC leader for appointing a low-academic individual to preside over a meeting.
He argued that Beke led the Rivers delegation to vote for Rotimi Amaechi in the presidential primaries, scoring 56 votes.
However, there was an intention to remove Amaechi’s right-hand man, and he (Amaechi), would then become the APC leader and use the party to fight President Amaechi in 2027.
In his words: “We imagine how a person of low academic qualifications can preside over a meeting that some of us would attend but the APC leader then said they wanted somebody who had a street boy mentality.
“But the truth was that he wanted a surrogate, a stooge who would do his bidding. We fought but the APC leader was then a minister and his vestiges were here as leaders of the party.
“At the presidential primaries of the APC, Beke was the person who led the Rivers delegation of 56 delegates to vote for Rotimi Amaechi. That was how they scored 56 from the state.
“There is an intention to throw up Amaechi’s man and then he (Amaechi) becomes the APC leader and then uses the APC to fight Mr President in 2027. We will never allow that”.
